What is Registered Shooting & How Can I Participate?

Many of our members and shooters new to the sport of skeet shooting have heard the term "registered shoots", but may have been reluctant to find out what it is, or how to get started.

Registered shoots are competitions sanctioned by the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA), and offer shooters the opportunity to compete against other shooters of essentially the same skill level.

Think you need to be a great shooter to participate?  Think again!  Shooters competing in registered shoots are "classified" by level of shooting proficiency, so novices shoot against novices, intermediate shooters against intermediates, and so on.  Also, you don't need to shoot all the events--you can shoot only one gauge or as many as you want.

The only requirement to participate in registered shooting is that you become a member of the NSSA ($30 annual membership that can be purchased the day of the shoot), which then allows you to compete in sanctioned events.  At your first shoot you will become "classified" based on your score in the gauge(s) you shoot.  You'll compete only against other shooters in your same class.  Sound simple?  It is!

Watch for more information on registered shooting in upcoming newsletters, or check back here.

Better yet, watch for upcoming shoot announcements (like the one on the home page) and simply come out the day of the shoot and observe the activities.  When ready, a volunteer or staff member will be glad to get you started!
