Artillery Sculpture Group
In 1882 the Artillery Group was placed on the Lincoln Tomb's northwest side. A gift from the city of Philadelphia, it is believed to be a scene which sculptor Larkin Mead witnessed on the battlefield early in the Civil War.Enemy fire has dismounted the gun, but the officer in charge escapes unhurt. A wounded soldier lies on one side, while another raises his hands in alarm.
